Silk for Skin and Hair: What We Honestly Believe (and What We Won't Claim)
Silk has earned a glowing reputation in the beauty world. From smoother hair to healthier skin, there are plenty of claims about what sleeping on silk can do. As creators of a silk brand, you might expect us to repeat every one of them.
We won’t.
We’d much rather tell you what we genuinely believe is supported by experience and evidence, and where we think the marketing goes too far.
Less Friction - The benefit we're most confident about
The biggest advantage of sleeping on silk is surprisingly simple: less friction.
High-quality mulberry silk has an exceptionally smooth surface, allowing your skin and hair to glide more easily across the fabric while you sleep.
For hair, this can mean less tugging and tangling, reduced friction that may contribute to breakage, and less frizz & fewer morning knots.
For skin, it means less pulling against the face overnight, which may help reduce those temporary “sleep creases” many of us wake up with.
It’s one of those small differences that’s surprisingly noticeable once you’ve experienced it.
Silk is less absorbent than cotton
Cotton is a wonderfully breathable fabric, but it’s also highly absorbent. That means it can absorb some of your skin’s natural moisture, as well as part of the night cream or serum you applied before bed.
Silk is naturally less absorbent, so more of that moisture stays where you intended: On your skin. We wouldn’t call it a skincare treatment, but it’s one of the reasons many people find sleeping on silk feels kinder to their skin.
Gentle for sensitive skin
Silk is a natural protein fibre that many people find exceptionally comfortable to sleep on. It is also naturally less hospitable to dust mites than many other bedding materials, and some small clinical studies on silk garments for people with eczema have reported reduced irritation.
That said, the research is still relatively limited, and results vary from person to person. We think it’s important to be honest about that.
Naturally breathable and comfortable
One of silk’s most underrated qualities is how comfortable it feels throughout the night.
Silk is breathable and naturally helps regulate temperature, making it particularly pleasant in warm, humid climates like Singapore. It’s lightweight without feeling flimsy, and cool without feeling cold.
What we won't claim
This is where we part ways with a lot of beauty marketing.
Silk won’t replace a good skincare routine. It won’t cure acne. It won’t erase wrinkles or reverse ageing overnight. Those things are influenced far more by genetics, sun exposure, overall health, sleep quality and your skincare routine.
We think silk is something different. It’s a beautifully made natural fabric that creates a gentler sleeping environment, reducing friction, helping skin retain moisture, and making every night’s sleep feel just a little more luxurious.
No miracles. No exaggerated promises. Just thoughtful materials that make a difference in the ways they genuinely can.
